Israel’s Central District Attorney’s Office filed an indictment Tuesday evening against Adam Everet Livix, a 30-year-old US citizen and religious Christian who is accused of plotting to attack Muslim holy sites in the country.

According to the indictment the accused, whose visa expired in September 2013, decided to target Israel’s Arab community and specifically sites holy to Islam. The indictment itself was served for illegal weapons offenses.

Livix was arrested in an operation jointly coordinated by Israeli security forces and the FBI; he was arrested two weeks ago but a gag order on the case was only lifted today.

According to the indictment, shortly after entering Israel in early 2013 Livix spent some time in Palestinian Authority-controlled territory and initially considered assassinating US President Barack Obama during his visit to the region. After nixing that plan he decided instead to target Muslim sites in Israel.

In October of this year Livix asked the man he shared an apartment with, who is an IDF soldier, to acquire weapons for him, and attempted to construct a bomb of 1.4 kilograms.

After police were tipped off to his intentions, forces arrived to conduct a search at the apartment.

But police were forced to break open the door after Livix refused to answer, and upon entering he tried to escape arrest by jumping from his window on the seventh story onto a balcony on the floor below.

Upon searching the apartment police found two bricks of explosives which had been stolen from an IDF base and purchased by Livix via a middle-man.

At the request of the Israel Security Agency (Shabak or Shin Bet), Livix has been sent for psychiatric observation.
