More Single Israelis Now Than Ever Before

More and more Israelis are living the single lifestyle these days, by choice or otherwise, according to new figures provided by the Central Bureau of Statistics.

While Israelis prepare to celebrate Family Day (formerly Mother’s Day) this weekend, the new figures paint a picture in which the “family unit of one” has reached social prominence.

According to the statistics, 2.46 million Israelis — 44 percent of adults above the age of 20, almost half the adult population — are defined as “available.” Of these, 1.16 million are men and 1.3 million are women.

Out of all the “available” adults, 1.75 million are defined as singles who have never been married — 952,000 men and 798,000 women. This means that one in three adult Israelis is single and has never been married.
