Yesh Atid chairman Yair Lapid spoke with students at Derech Avot high school in Gush Etzion Sunday in honor of the official memorial day of former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin.

In remarks to Arutz Sheva during the event, Lapid addressed the stabbing attack Sunday morning in the nearby community of Metzad, in which an Israeli suffered moderate wounds.

“First of all, there was an attack today and together we need to ensure the safety of residents of this region and the ability of security forces to protect the free movement of residents.”

We must ensure their ability “to carry on their daily lives without the fear of being stabbed by a crazy Islamist,” Lapid added.

The Yesh Atid chairman said the purpose of his visit to Gush Etzion was “to have a conversation here in the high school about the Rabin assassination and its implications.”

“What does it say about our collective commitment to tolerance?” he posed. “Tolerance entails suffering, it [shares the same root letters] as the word suffering.”

“This means that we need to listen to people even if we don’t agree with them. This is our most difficult test as a society, especially now during the difficult days sweeping over Israel.”
