An IDF officer reportedly fired a shot into the air on Thursday morning, while traveling north on a train in the northern city of Haifa.

An initial investigation conducted by Haifa police indicates that due to an increased sense of vigilance and irritability – a result of the ongoing wave of Arab terror in Israel – a number of soldiers traveling on the train identified a fellow passenger as suspicious.

The soldiers then began to shout “terrorist.”

An IDF officer sitting in the front car of the train lifted his weapon and fired a single shot in the air during the incident.

The train continued until the Paz Bridge when passengers pulled the emergency brake.

Haifa police arrived at the scene within minutes and began to scan the train and its surroundings. After questioning those involved and failing to find anyone suspicious, police declared an end to the incident.

Israel Railways announced that following the sounds of gunfire, passengers pulled the train’s emergency brake lever and exited the train. Rail traffic was interrupted in the area as a result of the incident.

Amid the commotion, five passengers were lightly injured with bruises. They received treatment from Magen David Adom paramedic teams before being evacuated to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa.

Three passengers were also treated for anxiety after the incident.
