What looks to be a dry ice explosion in a bathroom cubicle in Los Angeles Airport has caused delays to flights as a police investigation gets underway.
NBC reports that the explosion was heard at around 7p.m. in Los Angeles Sunday night in a bathroom cubicle at Terminal 2. The report said that no one had been injured in the incident, with the airport re opening and resuming a full service at 9.p.m. local time.
Dry ice bombs, illegal in most countries, are made by placing dry ice inside a bottle. A chemical reaction inside the bottle can lead to a loud explosion and cause damage.
After Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad made an initial investigation of the incident, the case has now been taken over by the FBI.
FBI Spokeswoman, Laura Eimiller said the bomb had been placed in “a restricted area of the terminal (not accessible to the general public),” and that “responders found evidence of a plastic bottle containing dry ice.”
She added that the FBI and its partners would “investigate the incident to determine the individual or group responsible.”
