Palestinian Authority (PA) press agency SAFA has published portions of the minutes of a meeting held November 26 between senior PLO official Yasser Abd Rabbo and another PLO official, Hana Amira.
The minutes include a statement according to which senior PLO man Saeb Erikat recently met with US Secretary of State John Kerry. Kerry refused to discuss the PA’s suggested resolution, which is supposed to be transferred to the UN Security Council.
Kerry allegedly asked Erekat about the PA’s intention to join various UN bodies , including the International Criminal Court at the Hague. Erekat replied that the PA would not do anything without consulting the US.
Abd Rabbo also revealed that the US has been speaking with Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and perhaps Morocco, and asking them to put pressure on the PA to resume negotiations based upon several previous American suggestions.
He said that Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) head Yoram Cohen met with Abbas in Ramallah and that they agreed that Abbas would calm matters down in Jerusalem, and Israel would respond with “confidence building measures.”
