Former Justice Minister and Hatnua leader Tzipi Livni sharply criticized Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu at a Calcalist conference Wednesday, after Netanyahu blasted Livni and Labor leader Yitzhak Herzog Tuesday night for their plans to divide Jerusalem.
“Because Netanyahu has no solutions he scares the nation, and in his distress he draws out of Jerusalem,” Livni fired. “He who recycles for the third time the manipulations of the nineties – should know that it does not work.”
“What is the solution offered by Netanyahu to our security challenges?” she continued. “He does not have a solution, but he has great sound bites – speaking in a safe, appropriate tone and [giving] threatening warnings against terrorism – always against anti-Semitism and the Holocaust.”
According to Livni, Netanyahu’s political failure is due to the problematic image he created for Israel in the eyes of the world. Palestinian Authority (PA) Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has recognized that Netanyahu is weak against the world, so he dragging Israel into a political battle with it, she added.
Livni continued to bash Netanyahu for other issues, including the economy.
“Netanyahu is not strong in terms of Israel’s security or economy – and he has turned [the issue] into Israel’s soft underbelly [i.e., made it vulnerable -ed.],” she claimed. “[Jewish Home Chairman Naftali] Bennett and Bibi bring upon us a political tsunami, which brings an economic tsunami, which brings serious economic harm to Israeli citizens.”
About the upcoming elections, Livni said: “These are historic elections, the elections which will overturn the rule of extremists. This will change the course of the nation through [changes to Israel’s] economy, security, society, religion, and land.”
